Young volunteers scheme

drei Jugendliche stehen im Pergolenhof
Volunteer young people in the preservation of garden monuments, Bildrechte: ijgd

With the support of the Brandenburg regional association of the international youth volunteer scheme (ijgd) and the Federal Volunteer Service, the East German Rose Garden will once again offer three volunteer placements for working in garden monument conservation for one year beginning in September.

We’re seeking motivated young people between the ages of 16 and 26 with an interest in a wide range of activities in the fields of landscape architecture and horticulture. Interested young people can apply to the ijgd scheme to be a garden monument conservation volunteer.

Our current volunteers, Sharmine, Leonie and Josie, will work in the garden until 31 August:

Experience the seasons amidst nature and culture

  • The young volunteers work under professional supervision in all areas relating to care and maintenance of the park under monument protection.
  • They provide support, but also work independently on tasks such as planting, path maintenance and woodwork. Volunteers have the opportunity to gain experience in and try out different professional areas.
  • Pocket money and a food allowance are paid.
  • Volunteers are also covered by social insurance and are entitled to holiday leave. The entitlement to child benefit is also retained.
  • Volunteers are able to participate in seminars for professional and personal development over the course of the year and to also exchange with other volunteers.
